Job Description

Position : Assistant City Attorney Open: August 1, 2025 Closes: Open until filled, first review of applications on August 15, 2025 Status: full-time, exempt, non-represented Salary: $8,470/mo - $10,372/mo

GENERAL FUNCTION:

The Assistant City Attorney is responsible for prosecuting all misdemeanor and gross misdemeanor crimes and civil infractions in the Centralia Municipal Court, as well as representing the City in civil litigation, administrative hearings, and other adjudicative proceedings. The role includes contract review, handling public records requests, drafting legal documents, and conducting legal research. The ideal candidate exhibits exceptional attention to detail, thorough legal research skills, strong victim advocacy, and sound independent judgment. Initiative in identifying legal, operational, and procedural improvements is essential to enhance the office’s effectiveness and efficiency. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Required Qualifications: Juris Doctor degree from an ABA-accredited law school. Licensed to practice law in Washington and in good standing with the Washington State Bar Association. At least one year of experience litigating criminal or civil cases.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Applicants must pass: Background checks, including criminal history and references. Education verification. Possession of a valid Washington driver’s license at hire or within 30 days, with an acceptable driving record.
