Moves patients to and from clinical units and various diagnostic/treatment areas via a wheelchair, stretcher, or bed which may include patients with oxygen tanks, intravenous pumps, drips, and other equipment. Coordinates patient transport activities in the facility as well as at the entrances. Responds to various alerts to prevent and assist with emergent situations. Transports patients in a safe and timely manner as directed by medical professional staff and established policies and procedures. Assists in retrieving, cleaning and storage of all patient transport equipment. Completes all training requirements and attends in-service education and scheduled departmental staff meetings for transportation planning and initiatives. Supports patient throughput and hospital capacity initiatives by using transport software, to facilitate timely patient transports. Coordinates activities in the discharged patient holding area. Handles portable oxygen cylinders safely. Obtains transport equipment for transport. Receives and documents patient transportation assignments. Requires lifting and carrying 40-50 lbs., pushing/pulling patients on bed or stretcher, lateral transfers up to 50 lbs. Frequent to continuous standing/walking; patient transporters can walk 8-10 miles per shift. May require kneeling, bending, squatting and performing CPR. High School Diploma/GED required. Must demonstrate high level of customer service, compassionate and positive disposition, ability to multi-task and take initiative. American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification for State of Pennsylvania within 180 days required. Evening shift, part-time with every other weekend and holiday rotation. Onsite at Lehigh Valley Hospital- Cedar Crest, 1200 S Cedar Crest Blvd.
