Overview Temporary Position Title: Seasonal Application Reader (6) Temporary Position Summary: The Seasonal Application Reader will assist with admissions application review during Fall through early Spring. Readers will complete a holistic review of the academic record, attributes, and experiences of prospective first year applicants. Seasonal Reading Period is from mid-fall to late spring. Responsibilities Readers will complete a mission-aligned holistic evaluation of admissions candidates. Readers will work a minimum of 5 hours per week and a maximum of 25 hours. Readers can work remotely from any location and will have a flexible weekly schedule. Readers will have productivity goals that will outline the number of files reviewed per hour. Regularly communicate with the Director of Admissions regarding the review process and application volume. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university Prior experience in college admissions Strong understanding of the Spelman College mission Access to a personal computer and secure internet connection Commitment to maintaining strict confidentiality in handling applicant information and the review process Availability for two weeks of virtual training Ability to work independently, meet established goals, and demonstrate assertiveness Excellent communication skills, with the ability to read, analyze, and interpret quickly Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and strong typing skills Confidentiality & Conflict of Interest Given the sensitive nature of the role, the Seasonal Application Reader may not serve in other roles that pose a conflict of interest. This includes undergraduate admissions positions at other four-year colleges, high school counselors, and independent educational consultants. In addition, the Seasonal Application Reader may not be the parent, guardian, or immediate family member of a high school junior or senior. Upon hiring, the Seasonal Application Reader will be asked to sign a confidentiality and conflict of interest statement. Preferred Qualifications Experience with holistic application review at a selective institution Experience using Slate or a similar CRM Certifications, Licenses, Restrictions None.
