Job Description

About Collective:

Collective is on a mission to redefine the way businesses-of-one work. Collective’s technology and team of trusted advisors enables our members to achieve financial independence by taking care of everything from business incorporation to accounting, bookkeeping, tax services and access to a thriving community, all in one integrated platform. We believe in empowering self-employed people to enjoy the same tax savings that big companies get.

Featured in Forbes, Business Insider, Yahoo, Bloomberg, Financial Times, Techcrunch and more. We’re backed by General Catalyst, Sound Ventures (Ashton Kutcher and Guy Oseary), QED Investors, Google’s Gradient Ventures, Expa and prominent investors who have financed and built iconic companies like YouTube, Substack, Twitch, Box, Hims, Instacart, Lyft, and more.

About the role

Collective is looking for an enthusiastic Senior Cloud Infrastructure Engineer with a deep passion for tackling complex problems in both new and existing systems. You will play a crucial role in helping a young company scale into an industry leader. We're looking for someone who can justify their opinions with past examples and a strong knowledge of cutting-edge technologies and processes. You should enjoy paving new paths, testing recovery plans, and managing quiet, stable systems.

What you’ll do:

  • Use Infrastructure as Code (IaC) with Terraform to provision, deploy, and manage cloud resources on AWS and GCP as well as other SaaS vendors.

  • Embed security best practices into the infrastructure by enforcing zero-trust architecture principles like least privilege and identity-based access to protect systems and data.

  • Understand the shared security model for the various products used

  • Build systems that are both stable and cost effective

  • Develop and test disaster recovery plans.

  • Collaborate with and mentor teams on CI/CD pipelines and assist with debugging.

  • Automate all the things to simplify your life and scale your impact

  • Work closely with external teams to understand application needs and translate them into scalable infrastructure solutions.

  • Implement monitoring, logging, and alerting solutions to track system performance and reliability.

  • Proactively tune systems and address bottlenecks to maintain smooth operation of critical services.

  • Participate in the on-call rotation to respond to outages, recover systems, and guide incident response.

  • Determine root causes and drive the lessons learned process to improve system stability.

  • Stay current with emerging technologies and best practices in Cloud Infrastructure, DevOps, and Platform Engineering.

  • Lead or contribute to infrastructure projects that enhance deployment speed, cost efficiency, and overall platform reliability.

What you’ll bring:

  • At least 3-5 years of hands-on experience as a Cloud Infrastructure Engineer, DevOps, SRE, or Security Engineer with a proven track record of operating production cloud environments at scale.

  • You must thrive in the dynamic environment of a smaller startup.

  • Cloud Platforms: Proficiency in multi-cloud operations – Amazon Web Services (AWS) is highly preferred; experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and/or Microsoft Azure is a plus.

  • Experience implementing infrastructure and security policy as code.

  • Strong software development skills, preferably in Python or another high level language

  • Excellent communication, presentation, and analytical skills. You must be able to clearly and persuasively communicate complex concepts and risks in an engineering-driven environment.

  • Ability to write clean, maintainable code for automation and tooling. Experience building internal tools or services to eliminate manual work is a plus.

  • Familiarity with foundational networking concepts and protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, load balancing, VPCs, firewalls) and their application in cloud and hybrid environments.

  • Strong hands-on skills with Linux and command-line tools; you are comfortable using terminals and utilities to manage and debug systems efficiently.

Our stack:

  • Cloud: AWS (EC2, IAM, VPC, ECS, Fargate, Lambda, RDS, Elasticache), GCP (BigQuery)

  • Monitoring/Observability: Datadog, Sentry, Amplitude

  • Github, GHA

  • IAC: Terraform, HCP

  • Security tooling

  • Codebase: Python/Typescript/React

Why work with us:

  • You’ll get hands-on experience building a product that makes a difference

  • We’re a small, collaborative team that values learning, ownership, and thoughtful work

  • You’ll work on challenging problems in the fintech space

  • You’ll join our lively team energy in our beautiful office in San Francisco

What we offer in return:

Compensation Range: $200,000 to $240,000 annual base salary

The salary ranges for the roles are posted for your convenience and review. Please understand that if an offer is presented, the offer compensation package will be based on the relevant position related skills a candidate demonstrates during our formal interview process.

  • Employer-paid Health, Vision, and Dental Insurance

  • Equity package and 401(k)

  • Generous paid parental leave

  • 14 company holidays + unlimited PTO

  • Quarterly wellness reimbursement

  • A hybrid work environment based in San Francisco

  • Team events and virtual gatherings
