This role combines savvy social media strategy, content creation, and community engagement to build meaningful relationships with our audience and amplify the System76 mission. You'll be the digital voice of System76where authenticity, transparency, and geeky enthusiasm are highly encouraged.ResponsibilitiesCommunity EngagementFoster a welcoming, respectful environment across social platforms, forums, and live chats.Monitor and respond to customer questions, feature feedback, and support escalations.Cultivate relationships with community influencers, contributors, and Linux enthusiasts.Social Media ManagementPlan and execute social media content across platforms (X/Twitter, Mastodon, YouTube, Instagram, Reddit, System76 Discord and Mattermost, etc.)for System76, Pop!_OS, and COSMICCreate compelling posts that showcase product launches, product features, development updates, behind-the-scenes stories, and memes.Highlight community contributors and their projectsStay current on evolving best practices, trends, and algorithm shifts.Track metrics and adjust strategies based on engagement, sentiment, and reach.Content & CampaignsCollaborate with design, product, and engineering teams to translate technical ideas into approachable content.Stay constantly aware of product teams activityLaunch and manage creative campaigns to support major events, product launches, and open-source initiatives.Record, edit, or coordinate video and photo content from internal or community sources.Advocacy & FeedbackServe as the voice of the community internallyproviding feedback to product and support teams.Coordinate giveaways, contests, AMAs, or community spotlights to celebrate and grow participation.Help System76 show up at events (virtually or in person) as a community-first brand.What You Bring3+ years experience in community management, social media, or developer relationsDemonstrable experience managing social channels and forumsExpertise in current and emerging social media best practices, with a track record of adapting to changing algorithms and formats to drive high engagementExcellent writing skills with a distinct, engaging voiceComfortable with creative tools (Canva or similar) and basic video editingExperience with social media tools like Buffer, Hootsuite, or SproutAnalytical skills to track metrics and iterate on content performanceEmpathy, humor, and the ability to maintain a positive toneeven during tough conversationsBonus PointsUnderstanding of Linux culture, memes, and the open-source ethosFamiliarity with System76 products, Pop!_OS, or COSMIC DEBasic knowledge of HTML, Markdown, or GitPrevious experience in a technical or developer-facing companyExperience moderating Discord or Matrix servers, Reddit communities, or forumsWhat We OfferA mission-driven team passionate about open source and user freedomHybrid flexibility and a collaborative work cultureWork on cutting-edge hardware and software used by engineers and creatorsOpportunity to shape the future of open source technology
