The Telecommunication Technician is responsible for safely and efficiently performing a wide variety of field activities associated with installing, maintaining, and testing various telecommunication and wireless communication components/equipment in both the private and government sectors. Essential Job Accountabilities include performing daily assigned tasks according to priorities and plans, installing all material and equipment to customer and industry standards, splicing and terminating MM / SM fiber, performing fiber testing (OTDR, power meter/laser source, scopes), preparing, tray, and splicing fiber optic cable, testing, troubleshooting, repairing fiber optic systems, locating and accessing fiber optic splice enclosures, labeling, documenting, updating drawings, performing and editing “redlined” or “as-built” drawings, collecting data and/or performing VQA audits for customer closeout packages, willingness to learn and study industry material, communicating with management regarding delays or emergencies, and other duties as assigned. Education preferred includes High School Diploma or GED, technical certifications in telecommunications, OSHA 10/30, NWSA, TTT1, Authorized Climber, Competent Climber/Rescuer, Rigging, RF Awareness training, First Aid, CPR & AED certificates. Valid driver’s license required; CDL a plus. Work experience required in telecommunication/wireless construction in private and/or government sectors, including Small Cell sites, New Build sites, DAS, Tower Modifications, Microwave installation, coax, Cat5/Cat6 and testing. Skills include proficiency with Microsoft Office, ability to test and troubleshoot fiber optic, read blueprints and specs, work various shifts, operate industry equipment and power tools, work in safety-sensitive construction settings, and collaborate with a team. Physical demands include dexterity, stamina, ability to lift up to 50 lbs, work at heights, crawl, squat, and work in all weather conditions.
